This is an example of the mind blowing defiance of stereotypes you will find at Porcfest. Here you see a mosque. It was brought and set up by a man named William. William is a muslim, and has a large beard. However William is from Tennesse, is white, wears a straw hat, and has a deep southern country accent, with the exception of breaking into very particular pronunciation while pronouncing Arabic terms, or Indian terms (his wife being Gujarati).

William was also fond of smoking his "hillbilly weed". We carefully inquired about whether this was a moderation in his devotion to Islam, but he explained that he had interviewed four "rockstar" Imams on the subject, and concluded that medical cannabis is just fine by Islamic law. (I don't recall if he mentioned anything about recreational). He explained that hashish was only ever banned in Muslim areas in order to take away power from the Sufis, who tended to be users of it. This is similar (as he explained, and as I've heard though not confirmed by research) to the reasons for banning marijuana in the United States.

It so happens that Ramadan started on the last weekend of Porcfest. He cooked and handed out free meals to as many of us as he could at sundown on Saturday. I'm not sure about the specific tradition he was following here in handing it out to others, but I enjoyed it.
