The very first ghetto, about 500 years old. Its inhabitants were almost entirely wiped out by the holocaust. Today it's been revived, but largely as a historical center. However there are acting synagogues, kosher restaurants, etc. According to Wikipedia, the languages historically spoken in this area include things I had never heard of: "Venetian, Italian, Judeo-Spanish, Judeo-Arabic, French, and German". Also of note is the use of the word "calle" on this sign, whereas in other Italian cities you usually see the word "via". It turns out that the street signs in Venice are in Venitian, and that it's still a spoken language among a small group.
